The price of idols are fiercely bargained, but the absence of middleman often results in decent profit,good enough to give them a shelter under a thatched roof and two meals a day.

With no formal education,these people are totally dependent on their sculpting skills to make a living,passed on from one generation to another.Young ones often start learning at the tender age of 10.

Surviving in a metropolis with a family of 25 is no mean feat.Phoola Ram is the patriarch of the family consisting of 3 generations.He derives a great pride from the fact that idols that he makes are held in reverence by many.
