Hearing my soul...listening to silence in Lewis Pass. Sleeping in is a well enjoyed pastime yet 5:30am in the morning found this delight. Resting is important...but an advantage can always be found in being willing to do what most will not. The lesson for me here is to go the extra step, for just beyond where the masses stop is endless miles of untold magnificence. The silence was absolute, the stillness was tangible and it is here that in the absence of rush and turmoil, I begin to feel fulfilled.

Seeing my soul: Milford Sound, mother earth in her most wild form.

Milford is a place that attracts thousands of tourists every year...yet it can be a lonely place to work in the outdoors, miles from any civilized town. At Milford I learnt that ‘home’ is not about finding the right place, but creating it so that it is so. To attract a feeling of warmth inside, I must first be the warmth. To see the beauty, I must first be the beauty.

Touching my soul...fulfilment in the Paparoa’s.

I know of no greater reflective time than the setting of the sun. Another day has run its course and my daily exertions, mixed with millions of others, are resting quietly as the sun lowers itself gently over the horizon. The life of a nomad may be simple, but the rewards are of more significance than a weekly pay check, they are a tangible memory that lasts. Forever. For being able to experience the richness of life, the fullness of beauty and to touch the inner peace of my soul, I am grateful.
