Day 2 - Oslo, Norway - The most beautiful Autumn day....

NORWAY | Friday, 2 October 2009 | Views [720]

Oslo er en pen by! Today is glorious, you can really feel that Autumn has arrived and the most perfect weather with it.  Blue skies, warming sunlight, not a cloud in the sky, what a wonderful way to start my day.

The first thing I did was buy an Oslo visitors card for 72 hours, it grants me access to all the museums, public transport, discounts and other neat stuff.  That was about $70 USD, well worth it. I checked out of my creepy hotel and took the tram to the youth hostel some 15 minutes away from town center.  I really don't like to share my room, especially with 4 strangers but tough shit, money doesn't grow on trees and I've been doing very well managing my funds so far.

After I checked into the hostel I took the tram back into town to do a little sightseeing, my first destination was the Vikingskipmuseet (Viking ship museum), because after all that's the very first thing on my list to see. The museum is simply astounding, GIANT viking ships (3 of them) and an assorted display of grave findings, burial treasures, all sorts of neat stuff from the past, specifically around 890AD.  You should really check out the photos once I upload them here.

I spent about 45 minutes there and left to grab a snack, took the bus back into town and visited Akershus Festning. That was cool too. The sun was about an hour away from completely setting and the sunlight was like the color of honey, covering the tree tops, which were also turning their fall colors.  Couldn't be more perfect.

Before the sun went down I returned to the tram in front of Olso S station and took it back to my hostel so I could relax, eat and possibly go out again but I receive a text message from my (now) new friend Halvard (introduced to me through Kevin Ross Hannah, thanks Kevin!) who offered me a place to stay that night.  Got a full refund from the hostel and took my bags and went back into town to meet Halvard and his partner Bo.

Last night was truly awesome, we sat and chatted about music, black metal and Ulver, drank some delicious Absinthe from the Czech republic, there were two kinds actually...

Then we went out to the bar and had a good time.  FUN FUN FUN !!!

good night.
