In Haiti, twins are believed to be direct descendants of the one central god in Vodou—Bondye. And while she has very little money, Sandra, 32, said she was thrilled when she found out she was having twins; seeing it as a blessing instead of a burden. With a focus on maternal and child health leading many of the country's nonprofits to improve current conditions, women like Sandra have benefited greatly.
