Cairns - Brisbane - Adelaide 6th March - 9th March

AUSTRALIA | Friday, 9 March 2007 | Views [1169]

Well I arrived in Cairns what a stunning place. It was strange seeing somewhere so green and lucious after going through the red centre. The clouds just hung around the hills with the top of the hills poking out. The heat is very humid here not as hot in temperature but very close. The centre of Australia is a very dry heat. I arrived totally alone which was strange for me as ive been with people the whole time. I got to the hostel and chatted to the girls in my room. I went out to dinner with girl from Japan. She showed me round which was good so I was finding my feet and asking around for jobs. I had a few forms to fill in! So was getting on the case the first night. The second day I was off on my mission to look for work when I bumped into Brian from the YHA in Alice. We were in the same boat so decided to look round together. I had an interview to work as crew on a boat on the Great Barrier Reef! I also managed to get an interview sorted for Friday with an agency for waitressing. Pretty good for a first attempt I think! That evening I went for a few drinks with him and Henry also from the YHA in Alice - I saw Henry at Kangaroo Island. Brian is 23 and Canadian. Henry is older - he wouldnt say his age from Holland. Nice genuine guys. When we got back I recieved my news by TEXT MESSAGE!!. Felt bad for Henry and Brian as I dont think they knew what to say, what can you say?!

After not much sleep I got up early and went for a walk round Cairns finally just sitting around the Lagoon with Brian. Its really nice by the lagoon you cannot swim in the sea around Cairns so they built the Lagoon for people to hang out and have a swim. Its such a meeting place and its very romantic at night all lit up. I was very sad and felt so alone and so far away from everyone here. It didnt help not really knowing anyone. I went to the hostel to lie down. A girl sharing my room told me she had been dumped by her boyfriend two weeks before coming to Australia, they were meant to come together. Poor thing. She was leaving the next day. She left me some chocolates and a card under my pillow that evening. How sweet. The card had a German poem in it which said that after each winter there is a spring and the end of a dark night there is a new morning. Her name was Britta.

That night Gray called to invite me back to Adelaide so I booked the next available flight. I just didnt want to be in Cairns on my own or go home as I knew id regret that. I decided this wasnt the place for me right now. I wasnt in the right frame of mind to continue travelling meeting new people and seeing beautiful things!

The guys arrived back in Cairns and I went out to meet them. We went to The Wool Shed and it was FREE champagne for the ladies all night. It was a good night.

The next day I got my flight to Adelaide via Brisbane. The second flight was really scary as the turbulance was really bad on the take off. When I got to the baggage collection my bag took ten mins to come through after my run of bad luck I thought that it had got lost along the way. Luckily for me it didnt! Was great to see Gray and Hels. I made the right decision for me to come back here.

I arrived to a lovely message and flowers in my room. I am being really taken care of and I am such a lucky thing. No need to worry im in good hands and will get through this blip. At least now I can sort myself out and get back on track without any worries.
