My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 5 photos

On a sign big and white read "Smile You Are In Kenya." It was the first thing I saw as my plane landed down in Nairobi mid-February. I did not know what to expect for my 2 month expedition, but maybe that was a good thing. My main objective was to volunteer in Kenya, and I met some of the most amazing people I have ever come across in my life. Stories of heroism, heartbreak and corruption, I became more and more infatuated with the people of Kenya. My love for the country lives on, and with my photos I try to re tell the stories that still inspire me today. My name is Kevan D'Agostino I am 22 years old and I study Communication Design and Photography at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Photography is what I live for; I am the type of guy that does not leave my house without at least one piece of equipment that can take a photo. I strive to take photos that not only are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but tell a story; photojournalism is what I aspire to do. I am interested in people: the way people look, the way they act, the way they react and how they all have their own story. I am very attracted to the eyes, they are the gateway to emotion and expression. I have learned throughout my years at University that photography has rules and guidelines to follow and although I am a strong believer in the technical aspect of photography, it is the content inside my lens that drives me to take photos everyday. However, it is important to say that the way my photos are expressed have proven to be just as significant as the content itself. I have had the opportunity to listen to some of the most famous local photographers in Vancouver, however, It would be a dream to work with such an amazing photographer like Jason.
