Mangroves & bat cave adventure in Langkawi

MALAYSIA | Thursday, 11 November 2010 | Views [659]

Thursday 11th November - Remembrance day.  Lankawi - Malaysia.

It wasn't until I looked yesterday that I realised how close the ship is to Phuket today!……I also never know what day of the week it is until I look at my 'i calendar' on my Mac (which I often refer to as just Mac! (just to clear up any confusion caused if I mention him!!)

I have a jam packed day ahead as usual. We don't do as many hours when we're in port but I try and take advantage of the ports of call. We're only at each for 1 day so I don't really want to spend it sleeping. It's much needed, but I can sleep on a beach in a few days.

Jo & I are going on a 4 hour tour together, 'Mangrove & cave adventure'. We travel on a coach for an hour to Port Kilim, go on a motorboat into the Mangrove forest. Then we walk along wooden platforms looking at various marine life (hoping to see moray eels, horseshoe crabs, mantis prawns and stingrays) Eagles fly around the area to catch their prey so we should get some great pics. Then finally we walk through a cave in search for bats. I'll take lots of pictures and share my stories later when I return.

I've no idea why every tour I do has the word 'adventure' in it….I clearly woke up one day and thought I was Richard Attenborough! :)

I'm about to start my 2nd from last shift on Ocean Village :( I had an amazing morning in Langkawi. We did all of the above. I learnt that 'Lang' means Eagle and 'Kawi' means red/brown.

I held a horseshoe crab, a sting ray who I decided was named 'Ray' decided it wanted to escape and come live with me! I didn't like seeing them in nets basically being stored as food, but I eat fish so I'll not become one of those hypocritical preachers! I LOVE SUSHI TOO MUCH!

I've never seen as many eagles as we did today, seeing them fly over head was awesome and so peaceful & quiet.

It was extremely humid even though the sun wasn't beating down on us. The sun was out this afternoon though so I was thankful the tour was over by 1pm.

We have a Robbie Williams tribute on this evening who's a regular act on board and is very good so I'll be in the venue for his last performance.

I can't believe there's only one night left, sad times :(
