After yesterday I figured I deserved the easy smooth mostly downhill run from Whiskey Grove Campground to the town of Pinedale. This is BIG SKY country with lots of “elbow room” and big ranches. I had a mild headwind but it was not too demoralizing. I hung out at the Rock Rabbit Café http://www.yelp.com/biz/rock-rabbit-coffee-shop-pinedale which had 10mbs free WiFi! At the campground I met two northbound GDR riders – one from Amsterdam and one from Oslo. We discussed Union Pass…open…or closed…? The Dutchman said he was keeping in touch with two Swiss who said the pass was open, but I’ll never know for sure, plus now I have one hell of a story to tell, going through eight miles of backcountry boot camp.
