About kayakcameraman

I am a self-confessed obsessed paddling plumber that ventures onto Lake Burley Griffin (LGB) most mornings. I began paddling on the lake as a way to rebuild both my body and mind after enduring an intensive three-month bout of chemotherapy due to testicular cancer. I had never paddled a kayak prior to this and very quickly discovered how stunning it is to be on the water looking out – rather than in. The beauty about living in Canberra and paddling on LBG is that most mornings it is calm. The sunrises and sunsets in Canberra are a kaleidoscope of colours and feature the best backdrops anyone could ever ask for. Why would you not want to experience it!

I only commenced paddling and photography approximately 15 months ago following my recovery from surgery and chemo. I am happy to say that I am cancer free at present and I am grabbing the ball with both hands and running as hard as I can, howling at the moon and barking at the tyres as they go by. It amazing how an experience like that makes you realize what’s important and what’s not. That’s what I love about the photography and paddling, it’s the best head space you could ever ask for. Most mornings and evenings I get to see some of the best natural light shows Mother Nature creates.

Also I share my travels and experiences of the destinations that I visit and experience on my facebook and online sites  Kayakcameraman as well. I am a camping enthusiast who likes to get out there and enjoy.  My blog members / followers are enjoying my travels and photographs as it is taking them to places that many never see. Through this medium it can provide them the possibility to do so. I have had a few people who are unable, due to physical or other reasons, to kayak themselves contact me and say; “thanks I really enjoyed the trip, I can’t get down there to see it anymore, but that was great.” That in itself is rewarding enough to be able to provide that type of escapism.

I love the headspace when I am out on the lake. There are no phones, T.V or commercials blaring. Every day I have my own counselling session out there and I always return calm and relaxed with a huge smile. This is one of the many reasons why I love my daily paddles as it gives me peace and contentment. I began taking photos to capturing the sunrises and sunsets as the colours and reflections are unbelievable. A good friend of mine summed up sunrises and sunsets; “It’s a gift, the start of a new day and a great big thank you at the end. The universe is truly an elegant place.” All of the photos that I load have not been digitally enhanced. That is what it’s all about for me, some people don’t believe this but that’s their choice.

I highly recommend you visit Lake Burley Griffin, whether you experience it by kayaking, sailing, sculling, dragon boating, or paddle boarding. You will not be disappointed, but one word of warning…..”It can be extremely addictive”.
