This damn has been built in between Val D'isere and Tignes in France. On passing it between the resorts I felt that I had to visit this place where man had intervened in nature. There were no bus routes so I hiked for nearly 3 hours to reach this spot. I was intrigued by the lake in the mountainous path and the obvious human evidence but the lack of active human activity.

I was attempting to discover the mountains beyond the ski resort in Val D'isere, France. I had taken the ski lift up Le Fornet and had taken the hikers path over the mountain. As I passed a man, I turned around to watch his ascent up the path. There were no skis here. I don't know where he came from or where he was going but I was compelled to take his photograph as he continued his journey round the mountain.

When travelling to Val D'isere in France, I wanted to document the mountains beyond the ski resort. I think this picture represents my lasting impression on the place. When I was atop the mountain with nothing but my camera, I felt a sense of deep peace that can only be accomplished by immersing yourself in complete nature. I found the juxtaposition between the bustling ski slopes and the everlasting solemnity of the mountains overwhelming.
