Sawatdee Ka Thailand: First Impressions

THAILAND | Wednesday, 22 October 2008 | Views [394] | Comments [2]

Am I Suffering from a crush or is Thailand really as friendly as it seems? I have to admit that I got a little teary eyed when I stepped off the plane and was greeted by a line of flight attendants holding their hands before their hearts, bowing to greet me, while musically singing hello to me in Thai “Sawatdee Ka.” It was amazing to feel the difference of being greeted with hands before the heart rather than with a wave or a handshake. I felt like we were greeting one another with our hearts  rather than just our heads or our intellects. I know, I am a sucker for Buddhism, but I really did feel my heart rush, as I realized that I was stepping into a country strongly influced by the practices of Theravada Buddhism.

Yes, it really is that friendly! And it's totally okay to have a crush. I fall madly in love every time I go there...

They are beautiful people. So gentle and warm...

Always smiling, always sanuk.

Enjoy, Kath. Enjoy....
