The southern region of Thailand is formed by a collection of islands separated by vast stretches of ocean. For local fishermen and other merchants, these iconic long-tail boats are vital to their freedom to roam among the islands. Taken during low tide, this picture shows a boat that has been left for the night, but will play a crucial role in its owner’s livelihood upon daybreak.

The long-tail boats of southern Thailand are famous, as their colorful wrappings and presence among picturesque blue water graces the cover of every tourist book. But behind the colorful wrappings there exists a deeper meaning, as they are utilized for expression for individual boat owners. Each wrapping is unique and speaks to the driver’s personality. This creates a sense of curiosity, as you can’t help but wonder what they are trying to portray.

After a winding drive and a climb up the Stairway to Heaven your arrival at the gates of the Golden Temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand is nothing short of breath taking. The vibrant colors and rich spiritual energy flow throughout the temple as the gold accents on its walls shimmer in the sunlight. This moment was captured during a prayer ritual of the local monks whose solitude only added to the tranquility in the air.
