Ripples across the Estuary.
Abstract colour and pattern are reflected and rippled across the otherwise glass-like surface of the estuary lagoon. At Waikanae Estuary, freshwater from the Tararua Ranges meets the saltwater of the Kapiti coast. Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve is connected to the Kapiti Marine Reserve and to Kapiti Island Nature Reserve, providing a rare sequence of protection for animals which move between sea, river and land habitats.
