Black and white friends train together at a makeshift gym near Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Devotion and charm exist even in the favelas. Despite their portrayal in the Western media, I was surprised how normal life in them can appear. Juice bars, cake shops and mobile phone sellers were a feature of this one.

This scene in Rio may look disorganised from the outside but the family circumstances say a lot about society there today.
