My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Saturday, November 5, 2011 | 5 photos
Stemming from my father's passion for photography and cinematography, my interest in the art of taking pictures began as a child in the late fifties and sixties. One of seven children and living in country Queensland, throughout my childhood, my father enjoyed documenting our lives and surrounding rural landscapes through pictures and film. Perhaps the only common interest I share with my father, his passion for capturing memories became the foundation of my love for photography.
Growing up in the country and residing on a farm in South East Queensland with my family for more than thirty years, my main source of inspiration when taking photographs has always been my family and my experience of life living on the land.
Predominantly a self-taught photographer, over the years photography has always been my treasured past time. Taking a relaxed approach, I enjoy capturing my zest for life and appreciation for nature in each shot I take. I also thoroughly enjoy pursuing my ultimate passion, that is to experience and pause a bit, to feel a perfect, precise, emotive moment of life.
Focused on finding new and interesting memories to capture, over the years my travels throughout Australia and across the globe, have allowed my technique, style and appreciation for photography to blossom.
A teacher by trade, my dream for the future is to have the opportunity to transform my life-long love for photography into my profession. A dream I have not yet been able to fulfil.
