Arequipa is the world centre of the alpaca wool textile industry.Grading, cleaning and sorting the wool is tediously but expertly done by hand. This luxurious natural fibre as well as vicuna is highly valued and was the major source of wealth for the Inca and now one of the components of any textile design.
