My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

The Friars (a priory in Aylesford, England) is a place of pilgrimage for many, with people of all faiths and no faith welcomed. Being a person of no faith it was very refreshing to feel so welcome in a place of worship. For this competition entry I wanted to put myself in a situation which would be challenging and felt The Friars was the place to do this.
Through this series of photos I want to convey the peacefulness of the priory. Many people are still quite ignorant of other faiths and I wanted to show others that a place of worship is also a place of real beauty and tranquillity. There is no need to be of the same faith to enjoy the same world around us. We may not believe the same as others but we can still reflect and contemplate together.
We live in a tough world and I hope to express through my photography the stories of hope and happiness which shine through. Not everyone has the ability to travel to exotic or even different places and to give others the opportunity to experience these places through my photography would be the greatest gift I could be given.
I love to learn. Having gone through my basic education I still wanted more so took my A-levels and then completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology. To learn more about photography is my ultimate passion.
I hope I have shown an array of photographic talents. Although I have been entirely self taught I yearn for the opportunity to be ‘shown the ropes’ as it were. And what better person to do this than Jason Edwards.
