This beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary is placed in the priory grounds. Although she is dirty and has bugs crawling on her, an unknown person decided to place a solitary rose in her hand.

Anyone is welcome to come and light a candle. This may be in the memory of someone who is gone or just for the beauty of the flickering light. These candles are also a form of income for the friars; a candle can be bought for a small price.

This image may be too ‘traditional’ for some but I think it portrays the majestic nature of the priory. The priory building, although some parts have been restored, has been around since 1242 and it takes my breath away when you think that so many thousands of people have walked through these arches and worshipped to the same god as some do today.
