Michelle
left. She stayed with me and the
hombres suelos for about 2 weeks.
We hared a bed, we shared our sicknesses (we were known as the pitri
dish) and we shared all of our roller coaster of emotions. But, like all good things, new good
things are bound to come in and take over (so I hope!). Michelle left today. Mike (spiderman) leaves Wednesday. Jonathon (another friend from England
who has also been staying on our couch) leaves Thursday, Gary leaves in less
than a month and well Shavy, im not sure what his situation is. But, just as I was beginning to get
comfortable, the friends I have made who have really been my support system are
moving on with their lives and so must I.
The problem with life in a new place and a new culture, especially one
that is so highly dependent on tourists is that when you invite these people
into your lives, it is imperative to understand that they are transitory and
while you may stay (even though I am considered transitory as well since im
only here for 6 months) they will always leave before you. Forcing the pattern to repeat itself
over and over again. But I am so
thankful for everyone that has come into my life while I am here.
Last
night we had a dinner party and it was the 4 roommates (plus 2 – Michelle and
Jonathon), Fania (the local who works at the hottest tourist shop so EVERY
traveler knows her), Hector (the local who is the dancing king so every
traveler knows him) and Laura another very young girl who is passing through. Half way through dinner (which I didn’t
eat since I was still feeling the effects of my mini nervous breakdown)
Michelle said, “wow, we have the 3 most popular Cuscenians in our apartment!” I said “who?” She said, “Fania, Hector and YOU” I had no idea what she was talking about and she basically
told me that everyone here knows who I am and that if it wasn’t for me no one
else would know each other and that I have brought all the people
together. What a feeling. I do love it here. Today. J
