My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

India | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

When asked in grade 5, “if your house was on fire and you could only take one thing, what would it be?” I instantly replied “my photo album”. At a young age, I understood the magic of photography and was enchanted with the ability to capture a moment.

For me, the allure of photography continues to be the opportunity to be drawn into an image and feel connected. I want to use my photography to inspire and engage; to shoot frames that evoke emotions, unearthing the beauty that surrounds us, often in the simple moments of daily life. Through the use of narrative images, I strive to remind people that we are all linked by our humanness – in our struggle and in our strength.

Recently completing an incredible 14-month travel journey, it became clear that I am happiest when I can combine my passions: travel, photography, learning, discovery and documenting the human experience.

The Travel Photography Scholarship with Jason Edwards is a tremendous opportunity to bring all these elements to life. I am eager to learn, to embrace the experience of a hands-on mentorship and grow my technique and skill set. Ultimately, finding my voice and place in the world as a travel photographer.
