My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Here we can see some young men playing a friendly game of football together; they play on a makeshift soccer pitch that is nothing more than an empty concrete lot in central Havana. Cuba has a strong passion for sports, despite the lack of proper equipment and infrastructural resources much time is passed playing different sports on the Cuban streets.

Here we can just make out a band practising in their house. Passers-by stop and gather around as the lively music flows from the residence. Cuba has a colourful and rich music scene and music is intimately tied to its life and culture. Many Cubans put their own energy and style into their music; most forms of the present day music are creolized fusions and mixtures of European and African origin.

Here we see two police men standing beside their broken down police vehicle in a empty Havana street. A heavy police presence on the streets and harsh prison sentences have been major deterrents for criminals. As a result crime rates in Cuba remain significantly lower than in many other large cities worldwide.
