I had a decent night sleeping in my car again. I left the campground, passed a few big waterfalls, and continued on the gravel road for about 20k's until I got to the visitors center. The guy at the center told me about a few places to check out. I first drove down a small road to a pullout and walked to the Papakorito falls, these were also large. Then I headed back to the main parking lot and began the Hinerau Track. It was a short hike that included a couple gorgeous waterfalls. I filled up on petrol in a nearby village and headed south.
The road to Napier was narrow, windy, hilly, full of fast drivers, and oversized logging trucks. I had both hands on the wheel. After 120km and finally seeing the ocean after being inland for quite some time, I reached Napier. It was a cute city with a few harbors and lots to see and do. Napier is known for its Art Deco and wineries. Art + wine, what more do I need. I booked a spot at a holiday park, did some much needed laundry, made dinner, and set up camp. (Do I sound like a broken record yet, a lot of this is repetitious).
In my drive through Napier earlier, I saw some neat street art and I wanted to go back to check it out. I walked through the streets and found some pretty good ones. Although it was dark, the street lights enabled me to get some decent pictures. I moseyed around for a bit then drove to the main city center. I eventually headed back to the park and to my tent.
