DAY 21. Here Fishy Fishy

NEW ZEALAND | Wednesday, 16 November 2016 | Views [267]

I took a shower and made breakfast at the park. I made my way to the fishing shop and purchased nymphs, indicators, and fly line. Andrew let me hire boots, waders, and a rod for free and I headed down to the river. The water level had definitely gone down since the night before and I began fishing all along the shore. The wind was pretty heavy so it wasn't easy to get my line out very far. It was getting quite cold and nasty out so I went back and warmed up in my car. I talked to an older couple there that were fishing also. They walked further downstream and had gotten one and were surprised to see a young girl fishing, and fishing on her own.

I went back down to the river and tried my "luck" a some more. After a bit, I retreated once again to the car to fill my belly. By then, it was almost 6pm and Andrew showed up along with his older fishing friend, I think his name was Lavern. We walked down the trail for 20 minutes to a wide open spot on the river I hadn't been to. It was really peaceful down there, just the sound of flowing water and the wiz and snap of the fishing line. We were there for quite some time and none of us even got a bite. So we headed back to the first section. I was busy undoing one of the many frequent knots in my line when Lavern hooked into a big, beautiful steelhead.

We all kept fishing until it was too dark to see what we were doing. We walked back to the parking lot and Andrew said he got two mid sized ones while he was further up river out of our site. I drove 20 minutes to a campground I had checked out earlier in Omori, an even smaller nearby town. I realized I had a lot of data left on my phone before it was to renew the next day so I FaceTimed Ryan and called Wyatt before passing out in my car.
