The Original Singapore Sling

The Original Singapore Sling

Singapore slings all the way

Singapore was busy, extremely well sign-posted and regulated, warm, humid and relaxing.

The flight over was fun, complimentary Singapore sling cocktails all the way and the Singapore airlines cuisine doesn't disappoint. Stayed with wonderful hosts, Greg's mate Dave and fiancé Sandy who have lived in Singapore for years so we had the best local insight into where to eat and drink in town.

Very active first day, hired bicycles and Dave took us on a scenic cycle route of Singapore with beer stops along the way. We didn't make it to the beach as planned, was much further than anticipated, especially after a beer, and Google maps ( or Dave ) taking us the wrong way.

Ate lots of local cuisine at Chinatown, chilli stingray, dumplings and some-part-of-a-chicken. Went to Carnivores, Brazilian bbq restaurant in town for dinner, then drinks at a bar which is a ship, on top of a sky scraper. Fabulous views of Singapore city, (30% is reclaimed land) and across the ocean, Malaysia and Indonesia.

People and culture is very very different to Australia - they don't do anything unless they are told they are allowed to. There are signs for everything, in the park telling you to take cover if it rains.

Graced the Long Bar at the Raffles, home of the Singapore sling. Loved the decor and the big bag of peanuts on each table to eat and throw the shells on the floor, an inch deep.

Our best find at Changi airport (besides the stunning orchids everywhere) on the way out was the Long Bar ( Thanks Dave ), which has just recently been opened by the Raffles hotel (fyi, it's on the second level of the duty free liquor store in terminal three). They serve a great list of complimentary cocktails. Pre-drinks were required for the 13 hour leg to Zurich.

Next blog entry... Marooned in Zurich !.

Hasta luego,
