My Scholarship entry - I am Fine - Singapore's Migrant Workers
Singapore | Wednesday, November 19, 2014 | 5 photos
Singapore has the most millionaires (per capita) in the world. To build the high rise developments and clean the pristine streets, low wage workers migrate from all over Asia. These workers are exploited by their employers and marginalised by the general public. I partnered with a local charity in Singapore that provides support to the migrant workers, and travelled to Bangladesh to deliver video messages to their families. The more time I spent with the workers and learnt about their dire situation, the more I could see myself in their shoes if I had been born Bangladeshi.
I am interested in using photography for social change, and I believe that photographs can positively impact both the subject and viewer. I am a strong candidate for this scholarship as I make the most out of any opportunity and it would help to kickstart my career as a humanitarian/documentary photographer that works to make a positive change in the world.
