Yesterday we took advantage of the overcast day and hired a tuk-tuk to the Angkor Wat and Angkor Tom temple complexes. The tuk-tuk cost $15 USD and a temple pass cost $20 for the day. Amazing, have some stunning photo's. It's hard to describe the scale of these sites, I enjoyed the smaller outer temples, they were quieter and set more into the jungle. You could wander at your own pace, and no areas were really restricted at all, apart from some restoration. The reliefs on the walls were beautiful, and that reclaimed by the jungle look is stunning.
During the evening we headed into town for a meal and visited the famous Pub Street. There are so many restaurants, again we are spoilt for choice. Today was really hot so we had a pretty lazy morning reading and hanging around the pool. By the afternoon it had cooled off a bit, with a nice breeze so we had a late lunch at the butterfly restaurant. Very pretty garden area with a large pond of large carp, and the whole place netted off with several species of butterflies floating around. Nice place to relax, and a good lunch. Then went for a walk around the city, it's very lush and green, nice parks, buildings and temples. Although you don't have to walk far before you see the poverty in the area, a life much different to our own. The people are friendly and can't help you enough, we are enjoying our stay. Two more days, then back to Phnom Penh. The internet here is sporadic and seems to work much better of a night, hence the late posts.
The bugs here are prolific, giant grasshoppers, the biggest snail (with a round shell) I have ever seen, and lots of miscellaneous hoppers and jumpers. Plenty of mozzies. The gecho's are fat and plentiful.Hayley and Billi are less than impressed. I'm glad we have plenty of deet! Love to all!
