Riding from Sea to Sea: John's Cross-Country Bicycle Tour

July 3 & 4 - Casper Wyoming

USA | Friday, 4 July 2008 | Views [485] | Comments [2]

July 3 - a long ride - 121 miles - across the expansive high plains of central Wyoming. Though the land looks like a lot of nothing (sage, priaire, no mountains, few farms, no towns to speak of) after a while it becomes magnificent. You can see how people can become addicted to the wide open spaces of the plains. We were helped by beneficent wind gods - 20 mph at our back - and comfortable temperatures, so the ride was a delight. July 4 - Independence Day, a day off, in Casper, Wyoming. As essentially everything is closed and there is little to see in town anyway, it is a day to relax, catch up on picture editing and add stuff to this blog (see the thoughts added to the July 2 entry.) Tonight, it is a minor league baseball game - the Casper Ghosts against Ogden - I love it when team owners have a sense of humor. I trust the Ghosts are friendly. Its the 4th, so there will be hot dogs and beer at the ball game, followed by fireworks.

Hey John,
Just to let you know I'm enjoying the blog (jees - I sound like a teenager!). I'm thinking of you and in the nicest possible way - your butt!
I'm enjoying the read, checking in every few days! Keep it up..........perhaps if you kept your butt up it wouldn't hurt as much.........sound advice from a guy whose longest ride is 10 mile!!! :)
Great stuff JK - great stuff!
Adrian.

Your reflections are worth reading and show that the trip is inspiring. Like Robert, I look forward to the book!
