We are on vacation again and like so many first days, this one began early and included a lot of driving. We left DeWildt at 6:00am and by day’s end we had logged more than 1,000 kilometers – about 650 miles. About a third of the distance was on dirt, sand and gravel – not nearly as bad as the road to Polebridge, Montana, but a heck of a lot longer. Our only minor mishap occurred when a sheep (or goat) ran into the side of the truck. Neither bakkie or wooly sustained any damage.
We’re in the Kalahari Desert in the Kgalighadi Gemsbok Transfrontier Park on the South Africa-Botswana border. Although sandy this camp ground is one of the nicest we’ve ever visited and only two other sites are occupied. Tomorrow we will move from Twee Riverein to Nossab, 165 kilometers into the park and on the Botswana border for two more nights. Although the day was warm it’s cooling off quickly now that the sun had gone down. The night sky promises to put on the best show yet as the stars increase exponentially in number.
