The weather in the high country of Swaziland, like that in Colorado, is changeable. At 2:45am the stars were spectacular as they are only in Africa. But by 6:30am it was very windy and the fog had rolled in. We breakfasted in the mist – no showers this morning – packed up a soggy tent and left by 8:00am. It was an uneventful four-plus hours drive towards Petoria and DeWildt. The only slowdown was at customs and immigration where for some reason we had to queue up, fill out a form, present it with our passports, receive an auto voucher, take form one to customs, where it was stamped, turn in form two at the gate, then show passports again at the South African side. It may be inefficient but it does keep several people employed.
Back at the lodge we have been moved – permanently – to the Flower Patch room on the first floor. It makes sense as it’s near the kitchen and away from the other guests but the room has a tub and no shower and the hand held thingy doesn’t work. I guess we’ll manage. While Connie sorted our gear (we sure have a lot!) I set up the tent, washed and dried it and put it away for a few weeks. While the laundry was going (load #1) we drove to Spar to replenish and settle in. It is good to be back among our friends and the animals.
