Well we made it in one (dry) piece to Bangkok! Whilst the flight is lengthy, Qantas is now Sarah's favourite new airline. As we flew into Bangkok we could see flooding north of the city, however we landed in a very modern, dry air-conditioned airport. One "interesting" taxi ride later we were in the heart of the city. Hotel has been great-quiet with a pool.
Bangkok has been quite a surprise.....cleaner than John recalls and London could learn a few things (e.g. clean, efficient metro and exercise equipment and workout instructions in the parks...take note fat chavs in Woking park drinking cider).
We have already tried Bangkok's streetfood, amazing Pad Thai for 60p on the Khao San Road (for Ben's information, streetfood is cooked on stalls by the street, not food found actually ON the street). Also tried our first deep-fried, dry-roaster crickets....yum! Unfortunately, now Sarah & I share everything, she bit the tail off & left me to crunch on the head and hairy legs.
Have survived several exhilarating tuk-tuk rides....they are like Alton Towers but cheaper! Have also seen several temples (to be honest, we are a bit templed-out already, not good news for the rest of Se Asia!) but they are beautiful, ornate and extremely peaceful.
Whilst there is some flooding in Bangkok, nowhere we have seen looks anywhere near as bad as the news makes out.....& today we head south anyway to spend some time on the beaches.
