Argegno to Bergamo.
Torrential rain set in after our 45th anniversary dinner with my family on our last night in Argegno. Fortunately it stopped briefly at 4.15am when we had to clamber up the steep rough steps in the dark to the car high up in the street car park, to start the journey to Bergamo.
However the heavens opened with even more ferocity as we set off, and continued to flood the windscreen as we negotiated the one lane streets which cling to the cliffs and stone walls of the houses along the lake.
And then onto the motorway, and, surprise surprise, thousands of cars were already careering wildly through the torrents, commuting to Milan, before even a glimmer of light appeared on the horizon.
