My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

I’m a photographer raised in England but currently living in The Netherlands. I have lived with photography since I was 18 when I was asked to photograph subjects using a manual film SLR and develop the photos myself. For me, the hardest part about photographing any subject is the editorial process afterwards. By this I mean to scrutinise my own photos in order to bring to the surface a complete set of images that tell a story, work together and be technical proficient. It is for this reason that I would relish the opportunity to work alongside Jason Edwards after the trip.
My last experience travelling highlighted so many beautiful human qualities and often small but overwhelming gestures by people whom I had met only briefly, that it really opened my eyes beyond a Western European culture that dominated my life before. Being invited into someone’s home, to drink tea with them and to spend time with their family, to name but a few, humbled me. These kinds of gestures are few and far between in the Europe I live in but they opened a path for me to explore and I want to invite people into a world where things are shared and people are humble and to show this in my photography.
