Hong
Kong
Started
by the pool and spa on the 73rd floor for a little sun and
viewing of the city. Bloody amazing!!! As we were positively
abstemious (only having a cup of tea and apple for breakfast) we
decided to celebrate our stay in Hong Kong with Dim Sum at a local
restaurant. Great choice. When you enter they give you a menu of
the dumplings available. You order what you want and then they are
cooked fresh for you – none of this waiting about for over cooked
dead dumplings. The food was delicious.
Then
off to the main street (via our ever-available Audi) for our pick up
for an artsy-fartsy-tourist bus trip around Hong Kong Island. First
stop was the Man Ho Temple, which as built in 1847 and where we both
nearly choked of incense inhalation. Then via a precarious funicular
ride to Victoria Peak. This afforded us a panoramic view over Hong
Kong island and Kowloon. Breath taking. Next stop was the Aberdeen
Fishing Village where we boarded a Sampan for a boat trip around the
bay. It brought home to us the incredible dichotomy between rich and
poor in this city, old and new. On one side, expensive gin palaces on
water; on the other – basic fishing boats that come together to
form a village on water.
Our
final stop was the famed Stanley Market on the other side of the
island. As we returned home we were treated to glimpses of the famed
light show that takes place ever evening over the harbour.
Earlier
today we discovered the spa in the hotel so we finished our final
night of the trip 73 stories above ground, taking in the spa, steam
room and back to the pool with this amazing view. What can we say -
the best hotel was left till last.
For
all those joining us on our adventure via cyberspace, it's now time
to prepare for our next leg. Basically, we'll be camping out and
travelling through the Australian bush for the next 6 weeks. No more
pampering in 5 star hotels but just as much fun. Late tomorrow we'll
be back in Oz.
