Monday
27th July
New
York.
From
Jim.
Said
goodbye to Nic this morning and headed via the shuttle to LAX.
Again, so happy to be travelling Business Class. The business lounge
was cool and this time the plane was the full size so I got my first
taste of full on-sleeper seats. I was able to have few glasses of
French Champagne; then nod off to sleep for the trip to New York.
Danilo
had suggested getting a car service into Manhattan so I phoned ahead
and was met by my name at baggage pickup. So nice to arrive in NY by
style. My hotel is down town and small.
Tonight
I caught up with my friend Tom. He's an associate professor at NYU
doing some great things. We go back 20 years to when he was a
student at Alos when I was teaching there. We talked for many hours.
Tom, took me on a stroll past ground zero and it was interesting to
see the work being done.
Great
night. Great to be in NY. (It's hot and steamy – like Sydney in
Feb)
Tuesday
28th July
New
York
My
second day in NY started with breakfast in the hotel cafe dating back
to 1865. Coffee and Danish over the New York Times for an hour.
Then I walked uptown to NYU to see Tom and what he's been working on.
We had lunch and a walk around the docks area then I headed back to
the hotel to change for tonight – caught the new musical “9 to
5”on Broadway. The show was a heap of fun and the cast superb.
But it was Times Square that really blew me away. It's been
renovated, cleaned and buffed up and the place was pumpin'.
