I don’t have any great or interesting incidents to share in this forum this week. In lieu, I think I’ll share here an excerpt from my personal journal last week. When I see you next, we’ll talk more about the very interesting times I’ve been having here absorbing the culture of the DR.
“12Marzo: Habichuelas dulces. There is an advertisement here that says, “Ahora eres reina de las habichuleas,” (Now, you are the queen of beans). I really must take a picture of this sign, since I do heart beans (well, legumes, etal). So today, the lady of the house made dulces from beans. Beans!! – I’m not kidding. I’m not one to turn down sweets in any form, so i was all over it…. And…. well…. mmm, mmm, mmm…. Who knew that habichuelas, papas, & pasas, (beans, potatoes, and raisins) in a warm sweet milky broth could be so amazing!” Just when I thought I knew everything about beans. Once I learn this recipe, I may truly be the queen of beans.
The pics I posted this week pretty much exemplify what else I’ve been doing this week. I’m having visitors this weekend and next, so I’ll have more interesting pics and convo to share then…. :)
