About jazz_zen
My name is Hassen.
I was born in Durango, México, but I've lived most of my life in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
I've always been inclined for arts. I was majoring in Music Performance, but ran out of funds and couldn't finish my studies.
When I came back to Cabo after college, I tried to form a band but, that didn't go well so I got kinda disappointed and quit music for a while. Recently I've realized that was a dumb thing to do, and now I pick up my guitar at least 5 times a week and improvise for while. I'm hoping I'll find a cool band to play with just for fun sometime soon.
I found a job taking pictures in a tour company, and fell in love with that craft. I devoured several books about it, spent countless hours reading more about it online, and having 4-8 hours everyday to put some lessons to the test, I got the hang of it pretty quickly and advanced through activities and positions in the company.
Eventually, I got into portraits and weddings, since it was the obvious step in the company. Even though I also loved this side of the craft, with all the nice people you get to meet from all over the world; Adventure, Travel and Documentary Photography will always be my passion in this craft, and I'm actively looking for a way to make this my main way of life.
I'm a bit of a gear freak. This has been bad for me, since I don't have the resources to buy all the peak point technology, and this has made me limit myself a lot in the past.
A lesson I've learned in the last year is to go ahead and give it a shot anyways! To try my best with what I have at hand and realizing that great things can still be done, this is really gets me closer to better.
This has proven top gear is not always necessary, it's just a luxury in most cases. Often you can get a good shot of what you need with what you already have, just know your gear in and out.
I'm trying to apply this philosophy in many areas of my life.
I recently dared to take a loan to purchase the right equipment to do a great job in weddings and started my own website. I'm still working for another Wedding Photography company, though, so I can keep building experience and taking pictures while more business starts to come in.
So far I've had the opportunity to document ATMEX 2014 in Chiapas for the Adventure Travel Trade Association, a couple other documentary works, and a few social events.
I hope this starts bringing more work soon.
I've always wanted to travel often, and I'm hoping this business opens this door for me.
