Our last day in KL and its Liz's birthday. We sang happy birthday when she got in the lift and a Japanese lady asked us in English what language we were using. I didn't think our singing was that bad, she understood us talking and wished Liz happy birthday. So I guess it was. At breakfast we got the waitress to bring Liz a piece of cake with a candle and they played happy birthday over the speaker system, Nick had also done it with a cup cake and his lighter, so already she had two pieces of cake and a couple of renditions of happy birthday.
We went across to Time Square, to check out the shops, absolutely massive but lots of repeat shops on all levels, so not that exciting. We had a coffee in Starbucks and headed back. Gerard and I left the others, Liz and Nick were going shopping across the road, where we had been the night bfore, Lee and Michael were going back to the Hotel and so we went to the Pavilion Shopping Centre. Fabulous, best one so far, very like KLCC, just as beautiful and had all the designers, but well lid out and easy to find what you wanted, there was a whole floor of baby and children wear shops, a floor of means wear shops etc. etc. very sensible. We got hungry, so we went to an Italian restaurant and had a bruschetta and a limoncello. The bruschetta was the best ever and the limoncello would knock your socks off. Of course, I bought a few little things for Ava, Grandmas privilege.
We picked up our new glasses on the way back and we are very happy with them.
Tonight we went to Traders Bar at the Traders Hotel near the Petronas Towers at Liz's request. It was ladies night and we could get free cocktails, only one type from 6pm until 9pm. Fantastic, we had some tapas and cocktails and more cocktails and watched the sun go down at the bar by the pool. Very nice and very cheap, given the waiter just kept bringing us more cocktails all the time until we told him to stop.
We had been told about the Mandarin Hotel next to the towers, so we wandered over for a look, straight out of the movies, marble staircase, the works. Just the number of black mercs outside were an indicator. We waltzed in like we were staying there and had a good look around. They were hosting the International Gas Conference and every rich oil/gas baron was in town, even Vladimir from Russia, yes, I can read name tags. Gerard disappeared through a security checking area that was unmanned, and up an escalator, so I thought I would never see him again, but he emerged from a lift later on unscathed and not arrested, which was good. I think he forgets he is no longer a copper. They put on a laser light and music show for the conference which was fabulous and then we went back to the Hotel for cake and coffee. The kitchen had made Liz a birthday cake and delivered it to her room that afternoon. What a day!!
Tomorrow we are getting picked up for the airport at 6.45am, so its time to pack to go home after a fantastic and relaxing holiday, thanks to good friends, great accommodation and lots of fun and good humour.
