My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

WORLDWIDE | Monday, 15 October 2012 | Views [432] | Scholarship Entry

-I was inspired to film Kagaya bar because media coverage of underground Japanese culture usually focuses on people dressed as Elvis Presley. I wanted to show a glimpse of local culture rarely explored. I also wanted to share scenes of Noh theatre since it is elegant, mysterious and poetically profound. -I studied film and media arts. I have been involved in quite a few filming jobs mostly as a volunteer. I have recently quit working for the trade company and have decided to follow my dreams instead as a filmmaker. I have acting experience and I love being in front of the camera so this would be a wonderful learning experience. -My dream is to be able to share a window into diverse cultures and a side of humanity often not explored in the international news. I want to have people feel immersed and motivated in my cultural experiences. I am the happiest when traveling and exploring, as it broadens my horizon and inspires me to find creative ways to communicate with people from all walks of life. It is extremely appealing to work with a mentor. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to refine my skills as a filmmaker and hopefully put a smile on a lot of people's faces.

About japanthroughlocaleyes

Due to a tragic mine accident that took place in Ikeshima 10 years ago most people were forced to leave the island due to dangerous levels of pollution. I photographed this at 2 am while listening of a concert of bugs, and animals. Locals warned me of poisonous snakes.
