While we waited for our sheep to be skinned for us, another sheep was getting prepared for sacrifice. Our sheep had bleated a lot before hand, but this one was quiet like he had accepted his fate.

Early on the morning of Eid, I woke up with my host sister, Meryem and host dad, Muhammad to get our sheep. Eid Al Adha is an Islamic holiday comes from the story of Ibrahim’s devotion towards God and his willingness to sacrifice his son but in the end God gives Ibrahim a sheep instead This a picture of the sheep right before my host dad sacrificed it. In order to prepare for this holiday, the family fasted before hand and my host dad prayed at the mosque before driving to the farm.

Back at the house, Muhammad helps prepare the sheep for eating. The heart, lungs, and liver are cooked and eaten first before anything else. Everyone helps with preparing the meal, whether it’s cutting the meat, cooking, or making the salad.
