Hot. Humid. Crowded and Fast.
My stay began after a 37 hour bus ride from Rio Gallegos. I arrived at the Downtown Mate Hostel, 8 bucks a nite, and worth every cent. A crowded place, no air circulation, but, well placed in the city center.
The City: Extremely old buildings meet newly built skyscrapers. Thousands of taxi cabs, which are very cheap. Diverse faces, all colors, shapes, and sizes. The city center revolves around the giant Obelisk, which towers over the McDonald´s, Visa Billboard, and various fashion ads. The different districts offer a variety of scenery, Recoleta, the upscale district with its giant flower sculpture. The Palermo district, the Boca district, lower class, home to the famous futbol club Boca Juniors. Also known for its brightly painted houses, and of course tango. The San Telmo district is packed with visitors, a shopping mecca on Sundays, tango in the streets, and various street artists, all thrive in this district.
