My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Most of the money I earn as a student goes towards airfares, and ealier this year I decided to travel to Nepal. I thought it a great idea to experience the culture and lifestyle of another country by getting amongst the community through living with them.
I stayed at an orphanage in the village of Pokhara for 2 months, and it was incredible how many people are volunteering around Nepal.
Travelling alone as a young female in a 3rd world country could sometimes get very overwhelming, but the kids would keep me grounded. Here were 16 Nepalese children between the ages of 4 and 16, with nothing but each other, their schoolbooks, and 3 sets of clothes each. And the strange thing was that I had never seen a happier bunch of kids. There were no anti-social heads gazing down into iPhones, no fighting over who got to play with what, and even in the rare few hours when there was electricity, they would watch t.v. for 30 minutes and then continue to play with each other.
Nepal has taught me patience and that it is more important to give back to a culture what it can give me.
