My Scholarship entry - Of Mountains and Men

When I was in the 4th grade I was cast as the lead role in a play. Halfway through the performance my nose started bleeding, I fainted, and my limp body had to be dragged off the stage. 15 years later and I still balk at the thought of any sort of public speaking. Thankfully, my ineptitude as an orator allowed me to manifest my creative needs through the medium of photography – and it has been my saving grace ever since.??I hope to use my photography as a platform to tell stories – to elicit beauty in the seemingly mundane. Whether I discover these stories on a distant country or in the neighborhood park – I hope to reveal the merit and beauty that’s inherent in all of them.??I think I have a good eye for the world I live in, but my relationship with photography has been mostly organic. This scholarship will give me the opportunity to hone my technical abilities with the camera. Furthermore, I want to learn how to capture the desired image with only the trappings of the present moment, without relying on post-production software. In doing so, I hope to gain added confidence in my abilities and receive the exposure needed to pursue my desire of becoming a professional photographer.
