Mendoza is Argentina’s wine province and that’s what we were here to check out. We stayed at the Mendoza Inn, a dorm style hostel with a nice courtyard. We had to share the room with a couple other fellows, one named James from Ireland, who stuck to us like a long lost cousin for the duration of our stay. We were not so enamored to have him. There was a kitchen on site that had a sign over the sink that said (in Spanish) “Do you see your mother here? Do your own dishes.” Len had to laugh when he saw it and translated it for me, saying “Yes I do see my mother here and she is doing the dishes.”
We spent the afternoon walking around Mendoza. It was quite a lovely relaxing city with tree lined streets, parks and whole pigs roasting in restaurant windows.
The next day we rented a couple of bicycles and went for a tour of the wineries in the neighboring town of Maipu. We had a good day, and we hit up quite a few wineries as well as a chocolate maker and olive oil factory. It was quite interesting. We had to pay for all of the tastings, which were quite expensive. Still, we did manage to taste quite a few good wines, with Len buying 3 bottles. And he laughed at me for buying an alpaca poncho and having to lug it around!! They did taste nice though.
To the north country.... Chilecito.....
