Day 16

AUSTRALIA | Sunday, 8 May 2011 | Views [376]

Big day today. Up at 05:30 for a 06:30 departure. We were ready slightly earlier so checked out and went for coffee and raisin toast at Maccas. The others then joined us. Al neede some oil so he went to the servo to get some. Once he had topped up it was off.We stopped briefly for a team photo at the Tropic of Capricorn statue before setting of again. A pie, drink and leg stretch at Gemtree before stopping ahain to adjust tyre pressures for the dirt road.We stopped at Jervois for fuel top up as Tobermorey no longer had any. That meant it would be a further 400 Kms before getting fuel. With a brief stop at the NT/Queensland border for photos it was off for the final leg. We saw a few Roos and a stack load of Eagles and then at about 17:00 and 640 Kms into the journey I got a flat. We quickly changed that as we were still about 150 Kms from our destination. Also the time was getting on plus the half hour time difference was no longer in effect so it would definately be a late arrival. After changing the tyre we set off again, albeit slightly more cautious as I could ill afford another puncture. driving through the outback in the dark was certainely an experience. There was an abundance of wild life and some Kamakazi birds around. They seem to dive bomb the truck. We got reception near Boullia so Elaine phoned through to make sure we got a spot at the campsite. We arrived about 20:00 and 804 Kms later. We put the tent up and had dinner. A couple of quick drinks before retiring for the night
