"Greenland" Travel Photography Scholarship entry: Children of Sapa

My love for photography began 11 years ago when I learned to shoot and develop b/w film. Sadly, I didn’t pursue photography as a major/profession because I was afraid of not being able to make a living. It wasn’t until Oct 2011, when a 3 weeks visit to Europe reawakened my dormant dream of becoming a travel photographer. Through using various creative means to fund my trip entirely, I realized my dream is possible.
April 2012, I resigned from my FT job and took off on a 3 months road/camping trip to 8 National Parks followed by a 5 months trip to SE Asia. I fell in love with photography all over again as it helped me to discover, capture, and share the beauty of the world in which we live. Through the viewfinder, I am able to see the world differently and help others do the same through my images.
I have no formal training other than a few classes I took years ago in college so the opportunity to be mentored by Jason Edwards would be an invaluable hands-on learning experience and a chance to be published in Nat Geo would be an amazing honor. Just as I hope to change people for the better through photography, I am ready to be changed myself in order to become a better photographer.
