"Oman" Travel Photography Scholarship entry: Sapa, Vietnam

Vietnam | Friday, January 11, 2013 | 5 photos

My love for photography began when I took my first class 10 years ago and learned to shoot and develop b/w film. Seeing the submerged prints magically come to life was a process I’ll always remember. However, it wasn’t until April 2012 that my latent passion for travel and photography finally gave me the courage to do what I should have done years ago. I resigned from my job as a career consultant in order to pursue my dream of becoming a travel photographer.

Whether I am taking pictures with my point & shoot, Iphone, and/or entry-level dslr I recently purchased a year ago, photography helps me to discover, capture, and share the beauty of the world in which we live. Photography is an universal language that speaks to all and can be understood by many. Through the viewfinder, I am able to see the world differently and help others do the same through my images.

A chance to be published in National Geographic would be an amazing honor and the opportunity to be mentored by Jason Edwards would be an invaluable hands-on learning experience. Just as I seek to change people for the better through photography, I am ready to be changed myself so that I can become a better photographer.
