as a group we hqd decided that rather than take 2 days to travel from kenya to uganda we would push on & do it one, in theory taking about 11hrs.

in reality whqt happend was that the roads ended up being worse thqn normal (they are atrocious here) and 35km took us 45mins bouncing along. added to that was the potholes, animals, other dodgy vehicles and people wandering on the side of the road.  and then it started to get dark; the rain came and the heqt of the road was causing steam to rise up on the road:

on & on we went: reaching the ugandan border at about 8pm: there was the usual large group of kids trying to sell us loads of stuff.  usually we just ignore them but zwe were starved & they had samasos on offer so we all jmped at the chance of food.  now i have no idea where the food actually came from..but these kids all took off running off into the distance with most of us even wondering if they were actually coming back:  but never underestimate them when there is money involved. about ten mins later they arrived back, a little out of breath, clutching bags of hot samosas still trying to con more money off us.

once we left the border it was SUPPOSED to take about 2 hrs but it wasnt our night.  with all the rain & the awful roads a truck ended up getting stuck on the main road causing everyone to come to a standstill. by this stage everyone was knackered & most of us fell asleep which was a good thing cos it took another 'hrs to get through the traffic & to our campsite 18hrs after we set off;  the tents were thrown up in a hurry 5veing 2am & all) and we all crawled in = grateful for the sleep we could have.  ah = the joys of travelling
