A warm, diffuse sunset casts a pink glow over a wharf in Curacao, the “C” in the ABC islands of the Dutch Antilles off the coast of Venezuela. Serene, and tranquil, this scene is one that is quintessentially Caribbean.

The colorful waterfront of Willemstad, Curacao’s capital city, showcases the classic pastel colors of the Dutch Caribbean. The two main tourist districts in Willemstad are Punda and Otrabanda, linked together by a floating pontoon bridge, which swings open to allow ships to enter the harbor.

Doors and windows line up in an abandoned lighthouse on the uninhabited island of Klein Curacao. Once a beacon for ships, the building has since fallen into ruin and disrepair.
