My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Having always been a visual person, photography is the language I am most comfortable with and communicate most effectively through. Although I have never pursued it professionally, using it as an instrument for story telling is something that I find wholly satisfying. The feelings I am rewarded with are like no other; the disbelief when that moment of beauty seems to fall into your lap without effort, or the satisfaction when you have worked hard to find a story and gained the subject's trust enough to capture it.

Without a doubt, photography has enriched my travels beyond measure. It's the never-ending hunt for 'that photograph' that propels me forward and motivates me to uncover every corner I can. Without the search for sights and subjects, I would have seen far less and met less people.

While photography can be wildly hedonistic, the fact that it can simultaneously benefit others is the silver lining. I would love to help tell stories and share something important. I think taking amazing photos often has little to do with your machinery but what situations you are able to slide into. To have the opportunity to learn Jason's approach to this would be so valuable to me.
