Along the river entrances to National Reserves, guard posts are set up to protect the orang-utans from poachers and the forest from illegal loggers.

Today the forest of Borneo are but a shadow of those in the past, and the remaining are threatened by illegal logging and mining, and palm oil platations causing great concern for orang-utan conservation.

Mining operations have contributed a lot to the environmental damage of the nation’s forest, and have the greatest impact on the landscape, leaving the land desolate and bare.
